It really depends on the problem. Taking the example I shared in the beginning of the article where I spent time to write a prototype using Airflow, but later dropped it. I could've said 'okay, I don't need it now, but what kind of signals I would see that would tell me the time is right?' The answer would define the threshold.
It definitely can be a transferable concept, but I struggle to think of an example that would work in teaching.

I would be interested what you would class as a threshold #1 and #2 in the WAYGNI scenario as then I think it could be a very transferable concept.
